'Visit of the Goddess' or 'Lakhis Visit to My House' is a 15" x 20" watercolor on paper work by Arpita Basu. Lakshmi (/ˈləksmiː/; Sanskrit: लक्ष्मी, IAST: lakṣmī) or Laxmi, is the Hindu goddess of wealth, fortune and prosperity. This painting describes a traditional event where on the night of Lakshmi puja, the Goddess astride her white owl pays a visit to her devotee's house. Many Hindus worship Lakshmi on Diwali, the festival of lights. It is celebrated in autumn, typically October or November every year. The festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil and hope over despair. Before Diwali night, people clean, renovate and decorate their homes and offices. On Diwali night, Hindus dress up in new clothes or their best outfits, light up diyas (lamps and candles) inside and outside their home, and participate in family puja (prayers) typically to Lakshmi.

Accomplished Artist Arpita Basu's 30 x 20 inch watercolor on Silk, a rare and a difficult medium, in earthy colours, 'The Village Square' captures the essence of a tiny hamlet in Bengal beautifully. Arpita's charming works are collected by major international museums due to the original folk element and the skill with which they are executed in a circular fashion, akin to Kantha stitch embroidery where village women sit in a circle and create masterpieces. All the action taking place in a hamlet, which could be from any part of the world, are recorded in a refreshing, pristine manner, thereby making it a spectacular collectors' piece !
